Lamborghini was originally founded in 1948 by Ferruccio Lamborghini to produce tractors. First in 1962/63, he established the company “Automobili Lamborghini”. As brand label, he chose the “Murciélago” as a sign of power. Murciélago was a legendary bull that survived a corrida on October 5, 1879, hit by 24 lances. The bull was pardoned at the end.

It is said that Ferruccio Lamborghini started with the production of sports cars after he gave advice to Enzo Ferrari for improvement of his cars and then being flouted by Enzo as a “tractor producer”.

After the production of tractor was sold back in 1972 (to present-day’s “Deutz”) and after several owners of the sports car production came and went again, Lamborghini went bankrupt in 1977. In 1984, the legend of Lamborghini sports cars were revived and even produced by Chrysler between 1987 and 1994. Today, Lamborghini is part of the Audi group.

The founder of the brand, Ferruccio Lamborghini, could not witness all that any longer. He died in 1993 at the age of 76 in Perugia, after having spent the last years of his life as winegrower with quite a success in the end.
