Glenmorangie Distillery - Infos des Landbesitzers:

Glenmorangie (pronounced: “Glenmóranji”, means: “valley of silence”) is the most successful distillery of Scottish single malt whisky (and not “whiskey”, this stuff can be found in Ireland!) with a long history. Already in the early 17th century, there were illegal breweries and distilleries located at the Morangie farm. William Matheson legalised distillation in 1843 by purchasing a license. Glenmorangie was one of the first distilleries to work with wood finishes. They also came as one of the first with single malts and cask strength editions. And one principle still stands untouched: there are always to be employed 16 men at Glenmorangie, the Sixteen Men of Tain.

The style of the whisky is rather light as the distillery is working with the highest stills (7,9 metre) in Scotland and the water is hard and full of minerals. That close to the sea, there are also salty influences as well as fruity, spicy and soft flavours included in the whisky. Very courageous, a wide portfolio of whiskies is produced – and the success seems to prove the way.

Besides Glenmorangie itself, also Glen Moray is part of the company and, since 1997, the Ardbeg distillery on Islay. In 2004, all experts have been surprised as all brands were sold to the luxury consumer goods company LVHM (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton) for 300 million British pound.
