Ardbeg Distillery - Infos des Landbesitzers:

Ardbeg is a single malt whisky distillery in the south east of the Scottish island Islay. Just a few kilometres to the west, you can find the distilleries of Lagavulin and Laphroaig. At the end of this road, there was once the distillery of Port Ellen which products are very popular amongst today’s connoisseurs of the “water of life”.

The origins of the distillery go back to the year 1794. At this time, Ardbeg was driven by moonshiners and smugglers until a raid of the customs authorities set a preliminary end to the production. The legal distillery was, most likely in 1815, founded by John MacDougall. Since 2004, Ardbeg belongs to the group of Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton S.A. (LVMH) selling luxury gods.

Typical for whisky from Ardbeg is the strong influence of smoke and peat. But there is even a very distinct note that reminds of medicine caused by the quite high content of phenols. Amongst enthusiasts, this whisky is much sought after. Although new types of good whiskies are being produced continuously, especially old vintages are very hot at the moment.
