Bruichladdich (pronounced: “Brook-laddie”, means “Shore Bank”) is one of the many excellent single malt whisky distilleries on the Scottish island of Islay. The Bruichladdich distillery is located in the city of the same name at the north western end of Loch Indaal. On the opposite side, there is the distillery of Bowmore.

Bruichladdich was founded in 1881 by the brothers Robert William and John Gourlay Harvey. Until a few years ago, it was the most western distillery in Scotland, now the distillery of Kilchoman has taken over this title. In contrast to many other distilleries, Bruichladdich was planed and built as whisky distillery right from the start. Being built around a central courtyard ensures an optimal work flow today.

Bruichladdich also offers single casks to people not dealing with whisky in a professional way. Furthermore, they arrange courses in their academy to learn a little but more about making whisky in 5 days. The Bruichladdich product range is generally very innovative and wide. It goes from almost unpeated to very peaty whiskies, where the sea climate gives a salty taste to the whisky. Only biological barley is used for production. Whisky distilled at Bruichladdich is uncoloured and not chill-filtered.

In 2000, Bruichladdich was sold to Mark Reynier and other investors for the sum of 7.5 m £. For driving the business, Jim McEwan from Bowmore could be won as production manager. He is one of the guys who made and make whisky popular beyond the borders of Scotland.
