Budweiser is America's No.1 beer, no doubt about that. Anheuser-Busch managed to build up an American icon over the last 15 decades. Pretty well done. But in the end (in 2008 to be more precise), they were bought by the Belgian-Brasilian brewery giant InBev for the horrendous sum of $52 billion!

It all started in 1852, when Eberhard Anheuser, a Bohemian emigrant, acquired the "Bavarian Brewery" and renamed it into "E. Anheuser & Co". He became a really good customer of Adolphus Busch, selling brewery equipment in St. Louis at this time. In 1876, the famous "Budweiser Lager Beer" was introduced. Three years later, the company was renamed into "Anheuser-Busch Brewing Association" to honour Busch' work for the company. In 1936, Bud was sold in cans for the first time.

The name "Budweiser" was always disputed on the European continent, since it reminds too much of the lager's origin "Budweis" (or "Ceske Budejovice" today) in Bohemia. The Bohemian brewery tries to enforce its claims for the original name.

Bud war neben Jever Bordbier auf meinem Schnellboot S67 Kondor! Einlaufbier, Ankerbier, Strafkisten, Labskaus, Torpedobier, Taufbier, Schanzbier, Glasbier (nicht zu verwechseln mit Glas Bier), es gab 1000 Anlässe, um es zu saufen!
